About Us

Our approach to business is simple – you will be dealing with a director who will look after all your insurance requirements.

The company

Our company, Cluckie, Paterson & Harle Brokers Ltd, has been established as an expansion of the original partnership of Cluckie & Paterson Insurance Brokers formed by Mike Paterson and Stuart Cluckie several years ago.

CPH Brokers are specialist business insurance brokers based in Angus and Argyll, covering the whole of Scotland, and with clients in England and Wales.

The business is operated by former partners in the NFU Perth office, Stuart Cluckie and Mike Paterson, who have over 40 years’ industry experience and various professional qualifications. James Harle joined in April 2019 with over 25 years’ experience with two Dundee insurance brokers.

We believe that by taking the time to get to know you and your business, we can provide a professional, personal service to you which will benefit you and your business long-term.

Our approach to business is simple – you will be dealing with a director who will look after all your insurance requirements. We aim to act as an extension of your business, as your competent person for insurance matters if you will.

We are proud to be 100% independent and do not have any of the constraints and placement strategies of some other brokers, and this allows us to ensure your insurance is placed on the correct basis with the correct Insurer. As an Appointed Representative of Momentum Broker Solutions, we have access numerous insurance providers which in turn gives us the opportunity to obtain a selection of quotes to ensure you receive a competitive deal. Our affiliation with Momentum Broker Solutions also provides us with robust back office support thereby allowing us to focus on satisfying our client’s needs.

Whatever type of insurance you need, we would love to hear from you and show you what we can offer. Just get in touch and we will do the rest.

Stuart Cluckie

I have been in the insurance industry for 14 years and my core role has always been dedicated to client service making myself available to my clients when required. I started off my insurance career working within the Perth Agency of NFU Mutual. After gaining experience in account and claims handling, I became a Partner within the Perth Agency in December 2006.

In 2017 I gained my Diploma in Insurance. I have always been committed to providing tailored, professional insurance advice and a local service to all clients, existing and new, and I take great pride in establishing strong working relationships.

During my time with NFU Mutual I gained a great deal of experience in Agricultural Insurance. I also gained experience of small to medium sized businesses of all descriptions.

I live just outside Oban with my wife and 2 young children. Outside work I enjoy going to the gym, playing golf badly and watching St.Johnstone when time allows.

Mike Paterson

I started working in the insurance industry at the age of 17 for General Accident Insurance. I gained experience working in Claims and Underwriting roles before progressing up to a Technical Business Underwriter position for Aviva. However, I found the roles were very insular and as I have always enjoyed speaking with people who run their own business, I decided to get on the front line and joined the insurance broking side of the industry.

Working as a broker, I have benefitted from dealing with a number of different local businesses, giving me a good knowledge of their industries and issues relating to each.

I became a partner in NFU Perth in 2016 but, coming from a family of small business owners (both sets of grandparents and parents), the lure of truly running my own business was too great and I set up my own brokerage firm with my business partner Stuart Cluckie in 2017.

Strong relationships are key to a successful insurance broking firm which is why Stuart, James and I will be your sole points of contact. Really, what we aim to be is your competent person for all insurance matters. We will get to know you and your business so that when you need us you will speak with someone who knows who you are, understand what needs to be done and act quickly and efficiently. I was working in my grandparent’s business from a very early age, so customer service is instilled in my DNA.

I hold professional qualifications in both Insurance and Risk Management and can advise on a range of matters.

Away from work, I do enjoy the odd social occasion when my 3 kids allow me. I am actively involved in the local football and swimming clubs, and very much enjoy walking my dog in the country.

James Harle

I started working in the Insurance Industry at the age of 17 for General Accident Insurance. I gained experience working in various underwriting roles across the UK before settling in the Aberdeen office of GA. In 1993, I took the opportunity to join Heath (Scotland) Ltd in Dundee as a Commercial Account Executive dealing with client’s business and personal insurance requirements, with clients in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen as well as many more local businesses.

In May 1998, Clark Thomson opened their Dundee office and I joined them in a similar role. With the support of existing clients, and the hard work and service provided by the new office’s team, the business grew but was sold in April 2018 to Jelf, part of Marsh. During my time with CT, I achieved my professional qualifications from the Chartered Insurance Institute.

In February 2019, I left the business after nearly 21 years, and am delighted to become part of Mike and Stuart’s business whose vision and ethos matches my own. I am looking forward to welcoming new clients to our business and providing the right solutions for their insurance needs.

Away from work, I volunteer with Monifieth Athletic FC who have over 250 children from age 5 to 19 playing football weekly at Riverview Pitches in Monifieth. It’s great to be part of a Club that is continuing to grow with the dedication and time put in by all the volunteer coaches and officials. When I do have some spare time, I enjoy hillwalking and cycling, although not as often as I would like. There is also time spent with my wife and three children, without whose support the development of CPH Brokers Ltd would not be possible.
